Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has expressed sorrow over the death of former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, describing him as a distinguished public servant whose contributions to Nigeria’s economic development will endure for years.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Oyedele, alongside senior ministry officials, said the late statesman served the country with integrity, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to national progress.
He noted that Alhaji’s years in public service were marked by significant contributions to Nigeria’s economic management and praised his dedication to strengthening public institutions.
According to the minister, the former finance minister’s influence extended beyond his role at the ministry. He recalled that Alhaji also represented Nigeria as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and earned widespread respect as the Sardaunan Sokoto, reflecting the confidence reposed in him by both government and traditional institutions.
Oyedele said Alhaji’s leadership, experience and commitment to the public good remain worthy of emulation, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire current and future generations of public servants.
He also extended condolences to the deceased’s family, the Sokoto State Government, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultanate Council and the people of Sokoto State.
The minister prayed for Allah to forgive the late elder statesman’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
