The Federal High Court in Abuja has turned down a request by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to be moved from the Sokoto Correctional Centre to a facility in the Federal Capital Territory or nearby Nasarawa State. Kanu, represented by the Legal Aid Council, had filed an ex-parte application asking the court to compel the Federal Government or the Nigerian Correctional Service to transfer him to Kuje or Keffi, or to any other custodial centre within the court’s jurisdiction to aid his ongoing appeal.

Justice James Omotosho ruled that the order could not be issued without hearing from the Federal Government. He instructed Kanu to convert the ex-parte application into a motion on notice and serve all relevant parties to ensure fair hearing. The matter has been scheduled for hearing on January 27, 2026.
