Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu on his appointment as Acting Secretary-General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the development as a proud achievement for Nigeria and the West African region, noting that it reflects the country’s longstanding influence in continental football administration.
CAF confirmed Adamu’s appointment on March 29, 2026. He stepped into the role in an acting capacity following the exit of Veron Mosengo-Omba.
Adamu previously served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played key roles in organising major competitions across Africa. His elevation to the top administrative office marks the first time a Nigerian has occupied the position since CAF was founded in 1957.
Tinubu praised Adamu’s professionalism and contributions to improving the standard of football events on the continent, expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen the organisation’s operations across its 54 member associations.
The President also linked the appointment to his administration’s broader focus on sports development, youth engagement, national unity, and global competitiveness, adding that Nigeria would continue to support Adamu as he takes on the responsibility.
