President Bola Tinubu has approved the redeployment of Musiliu Oseni as chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
According to a statement on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, Oseni was appointed as part of the reconstitution of the NERC board.
“President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16,” the statement reads.
Oseni will replace Abdullahi Ramat, who has served since August 2025.
“His appointment as Chairman took effect from 1 December 2025 and shall subsist until the completion of his ten-year tenure at the Commission, in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.”
The presidency said Tinubu also appointed Yusuf Ali as vice-chairman to replace Oseni.
“His designation as Vice Chairman took effect on 1 December 2025 and shall remain in effect until the completion of his first term,” he said.
The spokesperson said Tinubu also appointed Nathan Shatti — whose first appointment was in January 2017 — to serve a second term as a NERC commissioner.
According to the statement, Dafe Akpeneye was also appointed commissioner for a second term, having been first appointed in January 2017.
Onanuga said Chidi Ike was reappointed as commissioner for a second term, having been first appointed in February 2022.
He added that Fouad Animashaun was appointed as a new commissioner from December 2025.
“He is an energy economist with extensive experience in the Nigerian power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission,” Onanuga said.
