Iran has warned it could withdraw from the recently agreed temporary ceasefire with the United States if Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon continue to violate the truce, according to Al Jazeera, citing Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
The two-week ceasefire, announced earlier this week, was intended to halt hostilities between Tehran and Washington and allow safe maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Israel has continued large-scale airstrikes across Lebanon, which it says are not covered by the ceasefire.
According to Al Jazeera,a security source said that Iran could reconsider its commitment if Israeli strikes against Hezbollah-linked positions persist. Reports also mention the downing of an Israeli drone in Fars province and interruptions to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that Israel’s strikes in Lebanon have killed at least 87 people and wounded over 700, devastating parts of Beirut and southern Lebanon.
Iran’s foreign ministry has also raised concerns about “ceasefire violations” with Pakistani mediators, highlighting the growing diplomatic tension over the truce’s implementation.
While the European Union and other international actors have welcomed the temporary ceasefire, warnings of continued hostilities underscore the fragility of the agreement and the risk of broader regional escalation
