President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, delivered a stern caution to the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal government during a National Workshop on Legislative Compliance held in Abuja.
Represented by the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, Mr. Akpabio underscored the Senate’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law.
He emphasized the paramount importance of MDAs adhering to Senate resolutions. This workshop, conducted in collaboration with Green Mount Consulting Ltd, delved into the significance of legislative compliance in the deepening of democracy and the promotion of good governance.
Mr. Akpabio firmly declared that non-compliance with Senate resolutions was unacceptable, as it posed a direct threat to the foundation of the nation’s democracy. He urged MDAs to wholeheartedly comply with Senate resolutions, reiterating the upper chamber’s dedication to fulfilling its mandate.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele echoed the pivotal role of legislative compliance, underscoring its contribution to upholding the rule of law in a democratic society. He stressed the obligation of senators to adhere to their own resolutions and the vital responsibility of the legislative compliance committee in ensuring such adherence.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance, Garba Maidoki, reaffirmed the 10th Senate’s commitment to addressing issues of compliance. He emphasized the importance of collaborating with MDAs to enhance the nation’s adherence to laws and resolutions.
Former senator Ayogu Eze emphasized the critical role of the compliance committee, urging its members to devise a comprehensive agenda to elevate the country’s compliance with laws. He emphasized that Nigeria possessed the potential for prosperity if the right actions were taken. He asserted that the Senate’s warning to MDAs conveyed a clear message that adherence to the rule of law was indispensable for the country’s progress.
