Vice President Ksahim Shettima has extended an invitation to the Presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and the Allied Peoples Movement’s Chichi Ojei, urging them to join hands with the Tinubu administration in the collective endeavor to construct a new Nigeria.

Following the unanimous decision by the five Justices of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal affirming President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25th presidential election, Shettima expressed this appeal on behalf of his principal.

Reading the verdict earlier, Justice Haruna Tsammani, who chaired the five-member panel, declared, “This petition lacks merit. I confirm Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are responsible for their own costs.”

Subsequently, the remaining four Justices also concurred in dismissing the petitions brought forth by Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, contesting Tinubu’s ascension to the presidency as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission on March 1, 2023.

During the extensive 12-hour session, the Court dismissed the three consolidated petitions of CAPPC/03/2023, CAPPC/04/2023, and CAPPC/05/2023, citing various grounds, including the lack of merit.

Shettima further encouraged the opposition figures to put aside their differences and collaborate toward the common objective of nation-building, emphasizing, “This is a moment for unity. It is time for us to reconcile our differences and work together for the betterment of our nation.”
