The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has fixed October 20 for the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, announced the date on Saturday, dismissing claims that the opposition party was inactive or experiencing internal divisions.

He said the inauguration would take place alongside a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee, where key decisions concerning the forthcoming elections would be considered and approved.

Cleopas disclosed that the party would also present Certificates of Return to its candidates and host a dinner to strengthen cooperation among members ahead of the electoral contest.

He maintained that the party’s leadership remained committed to the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, insisting that both candidates enjoyed the support of the party’s structures.

The chairman described claims that the NDC was not preparing adequately for the elections as propaganda, adding that the party was focused on establishing effective structures before launching its full campaign.

According to him, the National Working Committee has held several meetings since August and submitted proposals on the composition of the campaign council for consideration by the party leadership.

He explained that the selection process required careful scrutiny because of the importance of the 2027 elections and the responsibilities that council members would be expected to undertake.

Cleopas also rejected suggestions that the party had stopped engaging with Nigerians since announcing its candidates, citing consultations and town hall meetings held in different parts of the country.

He listed recent engagements in Sokoto and Kaduna, adding that the party was scheduled to visit Enugu on October 15 as part of its ongoing consultations.

The chairman further expressed confidence in the party’s unity, saying its National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, alongside members of the National Working Committee, National Executive Committee and other party organs, remained committed to supporting the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.

The planned inauguration comes as political parties begin strengthening their campaign structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
