The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has fined RwandAir N15 million for failing to resolve a passenger’s baggage complaint within the required timeframe.
The NCAA spokesperson, Michael Achimugu, disclosed the sanction in a statement shared on Friday.
The case involved a passenger whose baggage was damaged. According to the regulator, RwandAir did not resolve the complaint within the period prescribed by Nigeria’s aviation consumer protection rules.
Beyond the fine, the airline was directed to replace the passenger’s damaged baggage and pay $170 as first-need compensation.
The NCAA said the compensation was in line with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which provides remedies for passengers affected by baggage-related issues.
The regulator stressed that airlines operating in Nigeria are expected to handle passenger complaints promptly and comply with consumer protection requirements.
The NCAA has previously imposed sanctions on both local and foreign airlines for various regulatory breaches, reinforcing its position that failure to meet passenger service obligations can attract penalties.
