President Bola Tinubu has again lauded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for the ‘’unprecedented infrastructure revolution across Abuja and the satellite towns.’
He said yesterday that Wike, through his performance, fully understands the vision and intention of his administration.
The President passed the verdict while inaugurating the newly-completed 13–kilometre Gwagwalada-Dafa-Yangoji Road in Kwali Area Council.
“You have earned us that trust here in this community and in this Local Government Area. I want to salute your vision, your passion to deliver and, particularly, your understanding of the intention of my administration, the Renewed Hope Agenda,”.Tinubu, represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said.
The President added that the FCT minister had not only faithfully translated the Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible projects, but also embraced his directive to extend development beyond the city centre by opening up the area councils with quality roads and critical infrastructure.
Tinubu said the minister’s close supervision of projects, insistence on quality and adherence to timelines had become a model of effective public service.
According to him, the enthusiasm displayed by residents of Dafa, Yangoji and other communities during project inspections and inaugurations reflected growing confidence in the government.
“When the government delivers honestly, people feel it and they respond. That is exactly what we are witnessing today,” he said.
Tinubu stressed that Abuja can no longer remain a capital where modern infrastructure is concentrated only in the city while rural communities are left behind.
He said: “Development must reach every Nigerian, not just those at the centre and not just those in the cities. Abuja cannot be a city of two worlds with gleaming districts and forgotten settlements.
‘’This road rejects that divide. It connects Gwagwalada, Dafa and Yangoji to markets, schools, hospitals and opportunities. It clearly demonstrates that the wealth of this nation belongs to every Nigerian, whether they live in the city or in rural communities”.
The President described the road as a major economic lifeline that would boost agriculture, reduce post-harvest losses, improve access to healthcare and education and stimulate commercial activities across Kwali Area Council.
Tinubu said the project would also strengthen the FCT’s capacity as one of Nigeria’s major food-producing hubs, adding that Nigerians deserved durable infrastructure that guarantees value for money.
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to end the culture of abandoned projects.
“The era of starting projects only to abandon them is over. We will fund projects, we will complete them, and we will maintain them. From city expressways to rural access roads, every kobo of public funds must translate into value for Nigerians”, he said.
The President also commended the Minister of State for the FCT, permanent secretaries and officials of the FCT Administration for working together to sustain the pace of infrastructure delivery.
He urged residents of the benefiting communities to safeguard the road by preventing encroachment, protecting drainage channels and reporting acts of vandalism.
Earlier, Wike said that the era of sacrificing public infrastructure for personal gratification was over.
The minister drew a sharp contrast between the cooperative stance of FCT monarchs and the transactional tendencies witnessed elsewhere.
“There are other areas outside the FCT which I know, when jobs are awarded, what traditional rulers will do first is to ask the contractors what is there for them,” Wike stated
“Their interest is not to make sure the job is carried to a logical conclusion; their interest is, ‘Look, what is there for us?’ And once the contractor submits to that, they no longer bother about whether the job is completed or not.”
Wike pushed back against critics of government efficiency, asserting that delivering high-quality infrastructure within tight timelines is not rocket science but a product of political will and reliable partnership.
