A train collision in southern England has left one person dead and several others injured, prompting a major emergency response from British authorities.

The incident happened on Friday evening near , about 90 kilometres north of London, when two passenger trains operated by East Midlands Railway were involved in a crash along a busy route heading towards London St Pancras.

Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and ambulance teams, were quickly deployed to the scene. Air ambulances were also used to support rescue efforts as injured passengers were treated on site and transported to medical facilities.

Authorities confirmed that one passenger died as a result of the collision, while several others sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. Officials described the situation as a major incident and said rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of reporting.

Eyewitness accounts from passengers described scenes of panic inside the trains following the impact, with people reportedly thrown forward and others suffering visible injuries. Some passengers said smoke was seen shortly after the crash, adding to the confusion and fear onboard.

The trains involved were both travelling southbound toward London, one originating from Corby and the other from Nottingham. Following the accident, rail services in the area were severely disrupted, with routes into London St Pancras temporarily suspended.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has begun examining the site to determine the cause of the collision. British Transport Police, alongside local emergency agencies, are also conducting inquiries.

Train accidents are uncommon in the United Kingdom, though authorities say investigations are necessary to understand what led to the latest crash and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
