An Independent Investigative Panel set up by the Federal Government has alleged that crossdresser and social media personality Bobrisky received unusual privileges during his time in detention, including confinement in a specially modified cell described as soundproof.

According to the panel’s report, which examined conditions in two correctional facilities in Lagos, the inmate was allegedly housed in a private, upgraded cell equipped with amenities not typically available in standard prison accommodation. These reportedly included items such as a television, refrigerator, carpeting, improved lighting, and other comfort-related fittings.

The report further stated that he was placed on a self-feeding arrangement, with family members allegedly allowed to bring meals regularly. It also claimed that visitation rules were relaxed, with relatives and associates permitted frequent access beyond standard correctional limits.

At another custodial centre, investigators said similar privileges were observed, including a furnished cell space and additional comfort provisions. The report also noted that a fellow inmate was assigned to assist with personal needs, a role it said was unusual compared to normal correctional practice.

One of the more striking findings highlighted was the presence of a reinforced or padded cell door, which the panel described as uncommon. It raised concerns about whether the modification was intended to block sound or conceal certain activities inside the cell.

The panel also said it had reason to believe mobile phones may have been used within the facility despite strict prohibitions, adding that this would require further investigation by relevant authorities.

The report also made recommendations for further scrutiny into allegations of bribery involving correctional officials and anti-corruption agencies. It stated that if such claims are verified, those involved should face prosecution under applicable laws.

In addition, the panel suggested possible legal action involving activist Very Dark Man, over how certain audio recordings and related claims were obtained and circulated, recommending review under cybercrime and defamation laws.

The findings have sparked renewed public debate over accountability, transparency, and conditions within Nigeria’s correctional system, particularly regarding the treatment of high-profile inmates.
