Iran has reaffirmed its strong position over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declaring that Tehran will continue to maintain influence over the vital maritime route despite ongoing regional tensions.
Speaking in a televised interview, Araghchi insisted that the management of the waterway would not revert to what he described as earlier arrangements before recent conflicts in the region. He stressed that Iran views its role in the area as a long-term strategic responsibility tied to national sovereignty and security.
He also indicated that Iran, alongside neighbouring Oman, would play a key role in ensuring the safe movement of commercial vessels through the strait. According to him, any future arrangement must reflect mutual respect and balanced responsibilities among involved parties.
On broader diplomatic issues, the Iranian foreign minister said discussions around the country’s nuclear programme have been delayed to the final phase of negotiations. He added that any agreement under consideration would be based on equal treatment and a commitment from all sides not to interfere in each other’s internal affairs.
The comments come amid continued geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region, where the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes for global energy supplies.
