The Lagos State Government has announced an increase in train services on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, along with an earlier start time beginning Monday, 15th June 2026.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) said the adjustment is aimed at improving passenger convenience, reducing waiting times, and easing pressure on the busy Marina–Mile 2 corridor.

According to LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kolawole Ojelabi, weekday and Saturday services will now begin at 6:00 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than the previous 6:30 a.m. schedule.

He said the change forms part of a broader timetable review designed to serve the growing number of commuters relying on the rail system for faster movement across Lagos.

“Under the new schedule, trains will begin operations 30 minutes earlier from Monday to Saturday, enabling thousands of commuters to start their journeys ahead of peak road traffic,” Ojelabi said.

He added that train services will continue to close at 9:30 p.m., despite the increased frequency of trips.

LAMATA also confirmed that daily trips on the Blue Line will rise from 90 to 94, improving capacity along the corridor.

“We are committed to improving passenger convenience and reducing waiting time,” the agency said in its update on the revised timetable.

The agency further explained that the increase in train frequency is expected to ease congestion at stations and improve overall travel efficiency for passengers.

Since its launch in 2023, the Blue Line has become one of Lagos’ key mass transit options, moving millions of passengers and helping reduce pressure on road transport in the city.

The new schedule takes effect on 15th June and applies to weekday and Saturday operations.
