Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Cotonou to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Benin’s president-elect, Romuald Wadagni.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Vice President, Shettima is attending the ceremony on behalf of the Nigerian leader as part of official diplomatic engagement with the neighbouring country.

The event is scheduled to hold at the Presidential Palace in Cotonou on Sunday, May 24, and will bring together several African leaders and international guests.

Officials noted that Nigeria and the Republic of Benin share long-standing historical, cultural, and economic relations, with cooperation often focused on border management, trade, and energy partnership.

Shettima is accompanied by senior government aides and is expected to return to Nigeria after the inauguration activities conclude.
