President Bola Tinubu has condemned the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted during the attack on schools in the Esiele community of Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.
Gunmen had invaded the community last Friday, abducting teachers, students and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President described the killing as “barbaric” and assured Nigerians that security operatives are working round the clock to rescue the remaining victims and arrest those responsible.
Tinubu said the Federal Government is collaborating with the Oyo State Government, while the Inspector-General of Police has deployed tactical and Intelligence Response Team personnel to lead a tech-driven rescue operation.
The President also renewed calls for the establishment of state police, urging the National Assembly to accelerate the passage of laws creating state policing to improve security in underserved areas.
