The All Progressives Congress has adjusted the timetable for its National Assembly primary elections in Zamfara State, announcing new dates for the exercise.
In a statement released on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC confirmed that the House of Representatives primary will now take place on Monday, May 18, 2026, while the Senate primary has been moved to Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
The party maintained that the State House of Assembly primary remains scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, followed by the governorship primary on Thursday, May 21. The presidential primary is still slated for Monday, May 23, 2026.
Alongside the revised dates, the APC also outlined a timetable for handling appeals arising from the primaries.
Complaints from the House of Representatives contest will be heard on May 19, while Senate-related appeals are fixed for May 20. Appeals connected to the State House of Assembly primary are expected on May 21, and those from the governorship primary will be addressed on May 22.
No reason was provided for the fresh adjustment in Zamfara. However, the party had earlier cited logistical challenges when it shifted the House of Representatives primaries by one day at the national level.
The changes come amid growing unease within the party across several states, with reports of protests, failed consensus talks, and allegations of candidate imposition. Party leaders and stakeholders aligned with President Bola Tinubu have reportedly stepped up consultations to prevent internal disputes from escalating ahead of the primaries.
According to the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, all political parties are expected to conclude their primaries and settle related disputes between April 23 and May 30, 2026. The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Assembly elections will follow on February 6, 2027.
