Nigeria has approved visa-free access for citizens of Rwanda for up to 30 days, matching a similar policy already offered by the East African country.
The decision was confirmed by the Nigeria Immigration Service, which said it has concluded arrangements to begin implementing the directive issued by President Bola Tinubu.
The announcement comes as Tinubu visits Kigali to participate in the Africa CEO Forum, where he also held talks with Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic ties between both countries.
Rwanda is known for allowing nationals of African Union member states to enter its territory without a visa for short stays. Nigeria’s new move is seen as a reciprocal gesture aligned with broader goals of African integration and easier cross-border movement.
Under the arrangement, Rwandan passport holders can enter Nigeria through airports, land borders, and seaports for lawful activities such as tourism, business, and official engagements, provided their stay does not exceed 30 days.
The immigration service clarified that visitors who intend to remain beyond the approved period must apply for the appropriate visa through Nigerian diplomatic missions abroad or via the country’s electronic visa platform.
Officials say the policy highlights the growing partnership between Nigeria and Rwanda, while supporting efforts to boost trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchange across the continent.
