British authorities have intercepted about five tonnes of cocaine valued at roughly $540 million during separate operations at a major port in London.
The drugs were discovered at the London Gateway Port during inspections carried out in February and March by border officials.
According to the UK Home Office, the largest seizure involved around three tonnes of cocaine hidden inside a shipment of bananas. The packages were carefully disguised to look like normal fruit cartons in an attempt to avoid detection.
In another case, officers recovered about one tonne of cocaine concealed in a cargo of wine imported from South America.
Authorities say the operations are part of wider efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks, with nearly 150 tonnes of illegal drugs seized over the past year.
