Women in Akwa Ibom State have declared their support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno during a rally held to mark International Women’s Day.
The endorsement took place on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, where thousands of women gathered for the celebration themed “Rights, Justice, Action.”
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, attended the event as a special guest.
Speaking on behalf of the women, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, read a proclamation expressing the group’s support for the three leaders.
According to the women, President Tinubu’s economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda have shown strong leadership aimed at stabilising the country’s economy and strengthening government finances while laying the groundwork for long-term national development.
They also praised Senate President Akpabio for his leadership in the National Assembly, noting that his stewardship has promoted cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government and supported the passage of key reforms.
The women said his role in strengthening democratic institutions and advancing Nigeria’s interests internationally informed their decision to support his return to the Senate and continuation as Senate President after the 2027 elections.
Governor Eno was equally commended for his administration’s performance across several sectors in the state. The group highlighted his ARISE Agenda, which focuses on agriculture, infrastructure development, rural growth, security, and education, describing his leadership as people-focused.
The women pledged to mobilise support across the state to ensure the three leaders return to office in the next electoral cycle.
In his response, Akpabio thanked the women for the endorsement, saying the large turnout demonstrated their commitment to their declaration.
He added that the patience shown by the crowd while waiting to welcome the First Lady reflected the strong support they have for President Tinubu and his administration.
Akpabio also revealed that the National Assembly is working toward passing a bill that would create reserved legislative seats for women in order to increase female representation in government.
Governor Eno, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the First Lady for visiting the state to inaugurate the Elderly Citizens Centre named in her honour.
He also acknowledged President Tinubu for initiating the coastal highway project, expressing optimism that the road would significantly reduce travel time between Akwa Ibom and Lagos.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady commended women in the state for their strong participation in the International Women’s Day celebration. She assured them that the federal government remains committed to improving the economy and enhancing the welfare of women, children, senior citizens, and other vulnerable groups.
The event featured cultural displays, musical performances, and solidarity messages, and was attended by the wives of several governors and ministers from across the country.
