The Edo State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarret Tenebe, has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a “gay party” during a recent interview.
Tenebe made the remarks while responding to allegations that members of the APC attacked the ADC secretariat in the state. Dismissing the claim, he said the APC was focused on internal matters, particularly its ongoing electronic membership registration, which he said was aimed at accommodating people joining the party from other political groups.
“I think they should check themselves because APC is a disciplined party, a party focused on doing its e-registration now because we have a lot of parties that are collapsing into our party,” he said.
He added that he did not consider it necessary to engage with the ADC over the accusation. “I wouldn’t want to respond to them because I don’t want to have anything to do with a party that has so many gays. I see ADC as a gay party,” he said.
Tenebe went on to mention several political figures in his remarks, alleging that some members and their family members were gay. He did not provide evidence for the claims.
The ADC has not yet issued a response to the comments at the time of this report.
