Four aviation unions have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the management of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, demanding the conclusion of a long-delayed review of staff Conditions of Service.
The unions — the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, National Union of Air Transport Employees, Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers said failure to meet the deadline would result in a total withdrawal of services across the institution.
In a joint statement, the unions expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as management’s repeated delays and lack of commitment to workers’ welfare, despite several meetings and assurances over the years. They said the situation had continued to affect staff morale and industrial harmony within the college.
The unions noted that workers at NCAT are disadvantaged compared to their counterparts in other aviation agencies such as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, where Conditions of Service reviews have already been completed.
While stressing that they had remained patient because of NCAT’s importance to Nigeria’s aviation sector, the unions said their goodwill had been stretched to its limit, accusing management of paying little attention to staff welfare concerns.
They warned that if the review is not finalised within 14 days from the notice, members would be directed to down tools.
Contacted for a response, NCAT spokesperson Jude Amadi said he was not aware of the ultimatum at the time but promised to confirm the development and revert. As of press time, no further response had been received.
