American rapper Nicki Minaj has shared her thoughts following the United States’ decision to designate Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” due to alleged religious persecution. The rapper expressed gratitude for the ability to practice her faith freely in the U.S. and highlighted the importance of religious tolerance worldwide.

The announcement came after former U.S. President Donald Trump, via his Truth Social platform, accused extremist groups in Nigeria of targeting Christians, describing the situation as an “existential threat” to Christianity. Trump emphasized that the U.S. could not ignore the violence and pledged to support Christians facing persecution globally.

In a post on X, Minaj reflected on the privilege of worshipping freely in her home country, writing that no one should face discrimination for their beliefs and urging people to acknowledge and pray for persecuted Christians worldwide.

Responding to the U.S. designation, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement reaffirming the government’s commitment to fighting violent extremism and protecting the rights of all citizens, regardless of religion. The statement praised the nation’s diversity and emphasized that Nigeria remains a country that values faith, tolerance, and inclusion.

The government also paid tribute to victims of violent extremism and lauded the efforts of the nation’s armed forces in combating security threats across Nigeria and the wider West African and Sahel regions.
