Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has publicly stated that he considers Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to be far superior to the current government led by President Bola Tinubu. Speaking during the Weekend Politics discussion on X Space, Amaechi criticized the Tinubu administration for the high costs Nigerians now face, especially regarding electricity.

Amaechi highlighted that Nigerians are currently paying around N1 million weekly for power, amounting to about N4 million monthly. He also noted the additional expense of purchasing diesel, estimated at roughly N300,000, not to mention the costs of feeding families and paying staff salaries. He argued that such financial burdens were less intense during Buhari’s tenure, suggesting that Nigerians were better off under the previous administration.

“Why compare diamond to gold? This government isn’t even gold,” Amaechi remarked, underscoring his disappointment with the current leadership.

The comments follow Amaechi’s recent defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he now aligns with prominent figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Amaechi pledged his full support for the ADC’s presidential candidate, provided the nominee emerges from a free and fair primary election. He promised to dedicate himself fully to the campaign, aiming to unseat what he described as the “clueless” current government.

Looking forward, Amaechi said that electoral reforms would be a top priority if he becomes president, promising to implement significant changes within his first six months in office. He also pledged to abandon controversial projects like the coastal road, which he criticized as being a vehicle for corruption.

Amaechi’s remarks reflect the shifting political landscape in Nigeria as the country prepares for upcoming elections and highlight the growing challenges facing the Tinubu administration.
