Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has vowed to bring swift and sweeping changes to Nigeria’s governance if he wins the 2027 presidential election. During a recent online discussion on X called ‘Weekend Politics,’ Amaechi promised to amend the constitution to shift from indigeneship to citizenship and to eradicate corruption within his first month in office — or else step down.
Amaechi challenged current political actors, inviting the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Wike, to walk the streets of Port Harcourt to witness firsthand who truly enjoys popular support. He accused powerful individuals of frequently visiting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to siphon public funds, asserting that if such money were used to improve security and the economy, Nigeria would be in a far better state today.
The former Rivers State governor also criticized Professor Yakubu Mahmood, calling him the worst chairman in the history of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
On economic policy, Amaechi made clear he would not reinstate fuel subsidies. Instead, he pledged to ensure that funds saved would be redirected into the hands of ordinary Nigerians rather than the elite class.
