Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, a former deputy governor of Lagos State, has raised the alarm over alleged irregularities in the state’s local government elections held on Saturday. She’s now calling for the entire process to be scrapped.

In a radio interview on Nigeria Info, Bucknor-Akerele said she couldn’t find her name on the voter register at her polling unit, effectively preventing her from voting. She also criticized the unannounced relocation of several polling units, which she believes contributed to the confusion experienced by many voters.

“There were polling units that used to be near a hotel — now they’ve been moved elsewhere without telling anyone,” she said.

She didn’t hold back in her criticism of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), accusing the body of deliberately creating obstacles to suppress voter participation and sway the election toward a particular political party.

According to her, the disorganization was not random but part of a broader plan to manipulate the outcome of the election. She urged LASIEC to cancel the exercise and conduct a fresh one that guarantees transparency and fairness.

Across the state, reports of low turnout, missing electoral officials, and logistical challenges have added to growing concerns about the credibility of the polls.
