Big Brother Naija star Kiddwaya has broken his silence following heavy criticism over his call for public donations to support victims of the recent massacre in Benue State.
The reality TV star, through his foundation, had appealed for financial support to assist families affected by the deadly attack in Yelewata, where suspected herdsmen reportedly killed over 200 people last weekend.
However, Kiddwaya’s public plea sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians accusing him of being tone-deaf due to his well-documented lavish lifestyle on social media.
The backlash prompted him to delete the donation appeal from his official X (formerly Twitter) account. But in a fresh statement, Kiddwaya defended his actions, saying the controversy has at least brought attention to the crisis in Benue.
“I am happy with the attention that I am getting, because it shines the light on how important the Benue crisis is. So I thank you all,” he said.
He assured Nigerians that the funds collected will be used strictly for humanitarian support.
“The money donated will be used to help some of the families affected to provide shelter, clothing, feeding, and medicine,” he explained.
“So, please email us if you are affected, and we will do our best to assist with your urgent needs.”
The Benue attack has sparked national outrage, prompting demands for justice and aid for the victims.
