The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to automating Nigeria’s ports to boost efficiency and service delivery, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has confirmed.
Dr. Akutah Pius, Executive Secretary and CEO of NSC, revealed this during a courtesy visit to the Lekki Deep Sea Port, emphasizing that automation is crucial to enhancing effectiveness in the maritime sector.
“We are championing automation as a key standard to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the maritime sector,” Akutah said. He also noted that the National Single Window (NSW) initiative, which aims to integrate all critical stakeholders, is nearing its final implementation stage after being elevated by the President.
Akutah urged other service providers to automate their systems to seamlessly integrate with the NSW. He highlighted the success of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model at the Lekki Sea Port, calling it a driving force for economic growth.
Inviting investors to tap into the maritime sector, he assured that the Council is committed to fostering predictable and profitable investments. “We encourage the Lekki Deep Sea Port management to intensify marketing efforts to showcase the port’s capabilities and Nigeria’s growing status as a major logistics hub on the continent,” Akutah added.
Mr. Wang Qiang, Managing Director of Lekki Sea Port, echoed the call for efficiency, saying, “We are pursuing efficiency to save costs for stakeholders,” and requested support from the Council to achieve their goals.
The NSC’s drive toward automation marks a significant step in Nigeria’s effort to modernize its maritime infrastructure and enhance its position as a West African logistics hub.
