The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused its 2023 governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, of sowing division within the party.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the party, Tai Benedict, Jandor’s resignation marks the end of a major internal crisis.

In an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH, Benedict harshly criticized Jandor’s leadership, stating, “He came to destroy the party.

His candidature destroyed the party more than ever before.” He claimed that Jandor’s supporters within the party have now recognized their mistakes and expressed relief at his departure.

Benedict continued, “Adediran’s exit signifies the end of the party’s problems. We have never had it so poorly in governorship elections in Lagos state.”

The remarks come after Jandor’s visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. Jandor announced his resignation, citing persistent anti-party activities, internal sabotage, and a lack of discipline within the party.

Benedict added that Jandor’s presence in the PDP was problematic from the start. “I personally told them he is from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and I am vindicated now,” he said.

“Losing a member of the party is not good enough, but if it is a double-edged sword, it is better for us to lose a bad package than to still want to keep it.”

The PDP’s deputy chair also remarked on Jandor’s visit to President Tinubu, suggesting it was likely to inform the President that he had “accomplished his mission in PDP.”

Jandor’s media aide, Gbenga Ogunleye, was contacted for a response, but as of the time of this report, he had not replied.
