The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) staged a protest at Sterling Oil’s headquarters in Lagos on March 12, 2025, accusing the company of discriminatory practices against Nigerian workers.
The union claims Sterling prioritizes Indian expatriates over qualified Nigerians, even for roles like gatekeepers and cooks.
PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, warned that the protest could escalate to a nationwide strike if the grievances, including the reinstatement of sacked employees, are not addressed.
Sterling Oil has directed all employees to work from home while the issue is resolved.
