Lagos State Governor affirms commitment to major infrastructure development, including Green Line Rail and Lekki Free Trade Zone.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that aviation regulators will conduct a site inspection of the proposed Lekki International Airport next week as preparations for its construction intensify.
The N171.64 billion ($450 million) project, part of a series of transformative infrastructural developments in Lagos, is slated to open in 2028, pending foreign exchange fluctuations.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the project’s potential to boost Lagos’ connectivity and economic growth.
He stated, “This groundbreaking initiative is an essential part of our vision to improve connectivity in Lagos, stimulate economic growth, and draw in global investments.”
During a tour of Alaro City, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to large-scale infrastructural projects, citing the significant investment opportunities in the Lekki-Epe corridor. He also visited four major companies in the area, including Ariel Foods and BUA, to witness firsthand the progress being made.
The proposed airport, located just 10 kilometers from the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), will be Code F-compliant, capable of accommodating the Airbus A380.
The project has been made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Summa Group, an internationally renowned construction firm.
Sanwo-Olu also provided an update on the Green Line Rail project, which will connect Marina to Lekki, and announced that work is expected to begin soon with funding arrangements already underway.
“We commend Alaro City for the extensive physical infrastructure laid down to attract businesses and investors,” Sanwo-Olu noted, urging further investments in the region.
