The Chairman of the Nigeria/Kenya Parliamentary Group, Abdullah El-Rasheed, has called for closer collaboration between Nigeria and Kenya to maximize the agricultural potential of the African continent.

In a meeting with Kenya’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb. Isaac Parashina, El-Rasheed stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral relations, noting that both countries share a commitment to peace, prosperity, and mutual respect since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations in 1964.

El-Rasheed stated, “Our relationship has continued to expand across various sectors, particularly in trade, investment, and global cooperation. Agriculture remains a critical area where we can collaborate for mutual benefit.”

He further emphasized that previous agreements signed between the two nations in 2015 – covering sectors like agriculture, oil, gas, and trade – laid a solid foundation for future cooperation. These agreements enabled the exchange of goods such as Kenya’s tea and horticultural products with Nigeria’s petroleum and cement.

Despite progress, El-Rasheed acknowledged challenges that still need to be addressed, especially in boosting trade volumes. “We must continue fostering dialogue and removing trade barriers to unlock the full potential of our relationship,” he said.

Ambassador Parashina echoed these sentiments, expressing Kenya’s eagerness to collaborate with Nigeria in textiles, coffee, and agriculture, areas where both nations stand to benefit significantly.

“With a focused partnership, we can build a prosperous future together,” he concluded.
