The ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic turn on Friday, as the Concerned People’s Democratic League (CPDPL) declared its unwavering support for Senator Samuel Nnameka Anyanwu, insisting that he remains the legitimate National Secretary of the party.

In a world press conference, the CPDPL’s leader, Co Daboikiabo Z. Warmate, accused prominent PDP figures of spreading misinformation and engaging in sabotage to unlawfully remove Anyanwu from office.

“The suspended BoT Chairman is executing a broader scheme designed to destabilize the PDP from within,” Warmate said, referencing Senator Adolphus Wabara’s alleged tampering with the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) list.

Warmate specifically named Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, National Publicity Secretary Debo Olunulagba, National Legal Adviser Kamaladin Ajibade (SAN), and Wabara as the key figures undermining the party’s stability. He further accused these individuals of violating the PDP constitution to promote their own interests.

“The brazing lies and propaganda of Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the insubordination and impersonation of the National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Olunulagba, and the disregard for the party constitution by the suspended BOT Chairman Sen. Adolphus Wabara, must be condemned,” Warmate stated.

He also discussed the legal battles surrounding Anyanwu’s position. Despite an Enugu High Court ruling against Anyanwu in October 2023, which claimed he violated party rules by running for governor while serving as National Secretary, Warmate insisted that Anyanwu is legally protected by a federal court injunction.

“That order was neither stayed nor appealed. By implication, that order is still unarguably subsisting,” Warmate added.

According to Warmate, Anyanwu’s supporters went to court to prevent an unlawful removal, and the court granted an order on January 9, 2024, protecting his position. “Sen. S. N. Anyanwu, as a law-abiding leader of our great party, swiftly applied for a stay of execution of the judgment… it was granted,” Warmate emphasized.

The CPDPL group called on PDP members to reject any attempts to destabilize the party. “Nobody can destroy or destabilize PDP. We insist that Sen. Samuel Anyanwu remains the authentic PDP National Secretary in line with the party constitution,” Warmate concluded.
