The Ogun State Government has condemned the actions of hip-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, after he allegedly assaulted officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA) at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Ota.
According to reports, Portable, who is currently at large, obstructed and assaulted the officials—Ramon Lateef, Akinpelumi Oyero, and Abidemi Onabanjo—while they were performing their duties.
Nine of his associates were subsequently arraigned in an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, facing charges including armed violence, felony, obstruction, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. Bail was set at 5 million naira each.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, condemned Portable’s “primitive and indecent act.”
“We are profoundly taken aback by the unpleasant and uncivil act of the hip-hop artiste,” the statement said. “The way in which Portable and some miscreants he employed attacked the officials of the OGPDPA is not only bizarre but a confirmation of the erosion of Omoluabi ethos in those individuals and indeed a great disgrace to the state.”
The governor further described Portable as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” who repeatedly assaults government officials.
Akinmade emphasized that the government is committed to addressing the issue according to the law, stressing that the act was “shameful and intolerable.”
“The Abiodun administration is committed to ridding the state of illegal activities and establishing morality,” he added. “Governor Dapo Abiodun totally condemned this act and reiterated his commitment to a just and egalitarian society.”
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed that anyone flouting the law, regardless of their status or influence, would face the full wrath of the law.
