President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja today, January 26, for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit from January 27-28, 2025.
The summit will focus on accelerating electricity access for 300 million people across Africa by 2030, as part of the “Mission 300” initiative, bringing together African leaders, global development partners, and the private sector to address the continent’s energy challenges.
During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to highlight Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its role in driving clean energy initiatives across Africa.
“Nigeria is dedicated to playing a leadership role in Africa’s energy transformation and ensuring that millions of people gain access to affordable, reliable electricity,” said presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
The summit will provide a platform for African leaders to present their national energy strategies, and a key outcome will be the endorsement of the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will chart a unified course for achieving the energy access goals set for 2030.
Joining the president on the trip are key officials, including Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen. The president is expected to return to Abuja after the summit concludes.

“Nigeria is at the forefront of advancing energy access in Africa, and we will continue to drive initiatives that empower our people and energize the continent’s future,” said Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for the president.
The summit will also feature presentations from participating countries on their national energy strategies, or “compacts,” as well as discussions on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and mobilizing private investment.
President Tinubu will be accompanied by top government officials, including Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The summit will conclude with the endorsement of the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, charting a unified path for Africa’s energy transformation. President Tinubu is expected back in Abujaafter the event.
