The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep condolences to Governor Umar Bago of Niger State and the families of 77 victims who perished in a devastating tanker explosion along the Dikko-Maje Road in Suleja Local Government Area.

The tragedy unfolded when a petrol-laden tanker overturned, leading to a subsequent explosion as people gathered to scoop fuel from the wreckage.

The explosion caused widespread destruction, incinerating several homes and shops, and leaving millions of naira in damages.

Emergency officials have confirmed that 25 people were injured, and several are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.

In response, Governor Bago has ordered a traffic diversion and called for stronger road safety enforcement in the region. He also appealed to the federal government to expedite the completion of the Minna-Suleja Road to mitigate future incidents.

The Kwara State Governor and NGF Chairman, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, extended sympathies on behalf of the Forum, offering prayers for the victims.

Meanwhile, the Federal Fire Service has urged a review of fuel transport safety measures, emphasizing the growing frequency of tanker explosions across the country and the need for stricter protocols.
