A Brazilian court has ruled that Adele’s 2015 hit song “Million Years Ago” must be removed from all streaming platforms and radio stations worldwide due to a copyright dispute.

The case was brought by Brazilian composer Toninho Geraes, who alleges that the song bears significant similarities to his 1996 track “Mulheres,” performed by renowned Brazilian singer Martinho da Vila.

Geraes claims that Adele’s song copied elements of his work and is seeking compensation, including $160,000 in moral damages.

He is also requesting that his name be added as a co-writer of the song. In addition to the ruling, the court has warned Brazilian branches of Sony and Universal Music that they could face fines of $8,000 for each instance of non-compliance.

This legal decision could have wide-reaching implications for Adele’s song’s availability across various platforms.
