The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) have expressed strong support for the Nigerian federal government’s decision to dismiss civil servants in various ministries, departments, and agencies who were found to have obtained fake degrees from unaccredited universities in the Benin Republic and Togo.
In a statement signed by Chukwudi Enekwechi, the group’s chairman, and Shedrach Sunday, the secretary, TMV emphasized that the action aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to fighting corruption.
The group criticized the universities in question, pointing out that many lacked accreditation from their home countries, and condemned Nigerians who obtained fraudulent academic qualifications in order to secure positions within the Nigerian civil service.
They questioned the capability of such individuals to contribute effectively to the country’s growth.
TMV praised the federal government’s move to dismiss those with fake degrees, underscoring that the effort aligns with President Tinubu’s broader anti-corruption agenda.
According to the statement, this action is part of a broader effort to restore integrity to Nigeria’s education system and to ensure that academic credentials undergo thorough scrutiny.
The group further warned that if the issue of fake degrees is not addressed, it could undermine Nigeria’s aspirations, particularly President Tinubu’s goal of growing the country’s economy to one trillion dollars.
They reiterated that a highly skilled and credible civil service is essential to achieving such a vision.
TMV concluded by urging the authorities to take necessary actions to penalize individuals engaged in fraudulent practices to prevent a recurrence of the problem.
