Afrobeats superstar Davido is facing backlash after his recent comments on The Big Homies House podcast, where he advised Black Americans, particularly Nigerians, against relocating to Nigeria due to the country’s ongoing economic struggles.

The singer’s remarks come amidst speculation that some African Americans might consider leaving the U.S. following the victory of President-elect Donald Trump. Many Black Americans are reportedly concerned about potential policies that could negatively affect them.

On the podcast, Davido stated, “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles.” His comments quickly drew sharp criticism from Nigerian public figures, who have urged him to retract his statement.

One of the critics, Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his disappointment on Facebook, saying, “My In-law Davido has made me sad by telling the world in America that Nigeria’s economy is in shambles. This is very sad. I will advise him to retract the statement asap. Nigeria made Davido. QED!!!”

Similarly, Bashir Ahmed, a former aide to former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, also condemned the singer’s remarks, describing them as unpatriotic.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ahmed wrote, “Selling out your country from foreign soil is so disappointing and unpatriotic. Public figures like Davido should know that. They should act and be seen as good ambassadors for Nigeria wherever they find themselves. @NOA_Nigeria.”
