The Nigerian Police have refused to release singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, despite a Federal High Court order granting him bail. According to lawyer Deji Adeyanju, the police have ignored the bail order issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 23.
Speed Darlington has been in police detention since November 27, after being re-arrested in Owerri, Imo State, for allegedly jumping bail. His initial arrest in October was prompted by a petition from fellow musician Burna Boy ¹.
Despite being granted unconditional bail, the police have yet to comply with the court order. The singer’s legal team has sent the ruling to the police legal department, but no response has been received. As of tomorrow, December 27, Speed Darlington will have spent a month in police custody since his re-arrest.
