I Don’t Know What’s Attracting PDP Governors to APC — Bode George

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has expressed surprise and disappointment over the recent defection of Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Douye Diri of Bayelsa State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview, George described the defections as an act of political inconsistency, questioning what could possibly draw loyal PDP members to the ruling party amid widespread hardship in the country.

“If you are dedicated and honest to your organisation, what is attracting you to the other party? People are hungry and angry; what has the APC done that makes Nigerians happy?” he asked.

The PDP chieftain particularly criticised Governor Diri’s move, noting that Bayelsa has long been a PDP stronghold. He reminded the governor of how he emerged through a Supreme Court judgment, describing his defection as ungrateful to both the people and the party that supported him.

On Governor Mbah, George said the Enugu leader’s decision appeared unnecessary, as the PDP was already working to resolve internal leadership issues at the national level.

He urged PDP governors not to act as though they own the party, stressing that the founding structure was built on collective decision-making.

> “The governors need to be careful. They cannot decide everything on their own; the party elders must also be involved,” George said.

While dismissing fears that Nigeria may become a one-party state, the former military governor said political strength lies in loyalty and dedication, not in the number of members.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure transparency and credibility ahead of the 2027 elections.

“INEC must be careful. We don’t want to hear about glitches during elections again,” he warned.

George concluded by urging PDP members to stay united, saying internal discipline and commitment will determine the future of the party.
